| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.ca With the second season of the legal thriller Damages, the creators, writers, cast, and crew have accomplished a minor miracle by producing 13 episodes that match--and, at times, surpass--the level of nail-biting drama and suspense that made the show's freshman season one of the best in 21st-century television. The core cast is back for this round--which is something of a surprise, given that novice lawyer Rose Byrne is convinced that her legal-eagle boss (Glenn Close) is responsible for the murder of her fiancé. The story neatly weaves together a murder mystery involving an old flame (William Hurt) of Close's, Byrne's collaboration with federal agents (led by Mario Van Peebles, who also directs the season's fourth episode, "Hey! Mr. Pibb!"), and Hurt's involvement in an environmental scandal that implicates a major corporation. The threads come together in impressive fashion, and the quality of the writing and direction is matched at every turn by the cast, which also includes Marcia Gay Harden as Close's opposing council; Tate Donovan as Byrne's saintly confidante; Ted Danson, who reprises his winning turn as disgraced billionaire Arthur Frobisher; Saturday Night Live's Darrell Hammond as an unnerving killer; and a trio of HBO vets--Deadwood's Timothy Olyphant and The Wire's John Dornan and Clarke Peters--as a shady love interest for Byrne and a pair of malevolent corporate apparatchiks. If the third season of Damages achieves the level of quality of season 2 and its predecessor, it will be the neatest hat trick on TV since The Sopranos. The three-disc set of Damages' second season features a healthy selection of extras for series devotees to enjoy. Writers and creators Glenn Dessler, Daniel Zelman, and Todd Kessler are featured on commentary tracks for four episodes, and they're joined by members of the cast on each: Byrne (who may surprise some with her Australian accent) and a wry Olyphant on season opener "I Lied, Too"; Danson on "They Had to Tweeze That Out of My Kidney"; Donovan on "Look What He Dug Up This Time"; and Close on "Trust Me." The creative team is also front and center for Season Two: Post Mortem, which is informative for those wondering how the producers and writers work with the show's nonlinear format; the cast is the focal point for Character Profiles, which features short bios and chats with the main players. A battery of deleted scenes round out the set's supplemental features. --Paul Gaita

| Customer Reviews: Worth every dollar August 10, 2010 CatM This is a great series. Season 1 was fab and Season 2 continued with great writing, devious plot twists, ingenious editing, and - especially - top-notch acting by a stellar cast of character actors. I enjoyed every minute and plan to watch the whole thing again in a few months. It's that good.

This is one of the best shows on TV today. Great, quality show.
Perfect writing, suspense, tone, and the acting is superb - two amazing female leads - with amazing support casts. 10/10. Love it.
Damages: the complete second season January 21, 2010 Michel Dussault 1 out of 9 found this review helpful
I agree with the previous comment. I had also pre-ordered the 2nd season for $38.49
and received my order on 2010-01-19. Yesterday, Amazon issued a $cdn7.90 crédit on my card, but still I should have waited for the series to be out instead of pre-ordering. I still paid more then if I would have ordered today!!! I don't understand.

Great Series that is truly unpredictable, in a good way. And to the review above, don't blame Amazon, there just price matching there competitor after the fact. You need to shop around to get the best price every time, but if you only shop at Amazon your still getting the best price MOST of the time.
Great Show, manipulative pricing by Amazon. January 20, 2010 Munir (Toronto, Canada) 2 out of 11 found this review helpful
I pre ordered this item at $38.49. It shipped on Jan 19 at that price. It is now Jan 19 at 10PM and the price is now $27.99. That is BEYOND ridiculous. DO NOT PRE ORDER FROM AMAZON, they will ALWAYS drop the price in the days following the release. I know this is how they operate but to plummet $11 hours after shipping their pre-orders is WRONG and TACKY. CASH GRAB at its best. Amazon should be ASHAMED. -----***** As an addendum to my prior gripe, Amazon realized their mistake and credited the difference back to my account ******--------
----and as a reply to "A Reply" - let me preface by saying that I'm the least combative person on the internet (yes, the whole thing) - but seriously, what the he!l are you talking about? First off, using the correct they're/there/their would help your argument (if you had one). Secondly, what Amazon did was wrong and they admitted it and corrected it. I do not deny Amazon's ability to price competitively, nor do I have an issue with them dropping prices after the release date. If you read what I was saying, my issue was that on the SAME day my order shipped out, the price decreased (considerably) twice. In essence, what they did was ship the pre-orders to allow for an instant nullification of their price match guarantee and then decreased the price by nearly 30%. It was shady and manipulative. I do, however, commend them for acknowledging the problem and rectifying the situation. Next time please understand the issue before you address it. I hope I didn't come off too harsh, but it bothers me when you defend a blatant cash grab. People work hard for their money and should not be subjected to what I believed was clearly a pre-meditated and manipulative strategy. I wish you well nonetheless.----
